Nestled at the edge of Truman Lake—Missouri’s second-largest lake—Clinton has a population of about 9,300 and offers multiple opportunities for dining, shopping, antiquing, golfing, fishing and camping. Clinton was founded in 1836 and is the home of Missouri’s largest town square, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The downtown district includes a museum and a cultural arts center, as well as a restored Civil War era home. The 225-mile long Katy Trail State Park, which was built along the former corridor of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, has trailheads in Clinton and St. Charles. Whether you are an avid cyclist, a history buff or a nature lover, Clinton is a perfect option for the active vacationer.

We could not have imagined a better way to showcase our community than to be included in the inaugural Tour of Missouri, and we feel quite fortunate to be included again in 2008. Last year we saw many visitors from across the state, the country and the world, and our community is ready to welcome new and returning guests this fall. Cyclists are important to our tourism trade because of our location on the western end of the Katy Trail, so we are quite pleased about the elite group of cyclists and their supporters who will return to Clinton for this world-class event.
- Dr. Gus Wetzel, Mayor of the City of Clinton
